Ofcom Presentation - Update

Dear Friends, Kane FM is entering the final phase of the 5-year community license application. Last Friday, 12 September 2008, we attended a presentation by OFCOM to ensure we met criteria before our final submission. The presentation was useful and we identified that we needed to secure further funding for the longevity of the station. As a result we are currently writing to different organisations to identity potential funding sources.

Healthy Living

Another planned partnership will be with Guildford’s Healthy Living Programme (HLP), a community-led partnership aimed to reduce health inequalities, promote social inclusion and build strong, cohesive communities within the borough, however, the HLP was disbanded due to a lacks of funds. Kane hopes to reawaken HLP’s vision with the help of Lucy Stone, Guildford.
Lucy has 14-years experience in providing children’s activities and hopes to produce a show based around her OFSTED registered (Fitter Schools UK) organization that’s committed to promoting good health and fitness among young children. For more information refer to http://www.fitterschoolsuk.com/

Kane Fm Limited form Links with Woking Youth Arts Centre (WYAC).

Getting the community involved in broadcasting is one of our key objectives and this has resulted in us uniting with the Woking Youth Arts Centre. This group has a dedicated new youth arts facility in Knaphill, Woking for young people between 11 and 19.

By working with WYAC we hope the Radio station will for the first time encourage individuals within the community to get involved with broadcasting / radio production, be it to express an opinion or share their taste of music with the audience. It will also serve as an excellent way to promote local events / schemes to the centres unreachable community. (In the past, this has proven a difficult task for the youth workers at the centre)

The partnership with the WYAC is an only one example on how Kane FM will help people become aware of their abilities and creativeness, be it via the radio or DJ / Emcee comp, or a B-Boy battle. (breakdancing)

The community workers at the WYAC have also set up a project titled 'Live & Direct' The purpose of the project is to encourage song writing and music skills amongst young people aged 11-19. We feel the radio will assist in promoting this project to the wider audience and will give confidence to new individuals with the community to the project.

This is vital and significant to the projects success, so a big thank you to Lisa at NGW and the Awards for All. The structure stands at a height of 45m from surrounding ground.
