Getting the community involved in broadcasting is one of our key objectives and this has resulted in us uniting with the Woking Youth Arts Centre. This group has a dedicated new youth arts facility in Knaphill, Woking for young people between 11 and 19.
By working with WYAC we hope the Radio station will for the first time encourage individuals within the community to get involved with broadcasting / radio production, be it to express an opinion or share their taste of music with the audience. It will also serve as an excellent way to promote local events / schemes to the centres unreachable community. (In the past, this has proven a difficult task for the youth workers at the centre)
The partnership with the WYAC is an only one example on how Kane FM will help people become aware of their abilities and creativeness, be it via the radio or DJ / Emcee comp, or a B-Boy battle. (breakdancing)
The community workers at the WYAC have also set up a project titled 'Live & Direct' The purpose of the project is to encourage song writing and music skills amongst young people aged 11-19. We feel the radio will assist in promoting this project to the wider audience and will give confidence to new individuals with the community to the project.
