Suburban Sprawl is a multi-venue music festival, taking place between March 6th and March 29th as part of the bi-annual Guildford International Music Festival.

The idea for Suburban Sprawl came from the nagging need to put Guildford on the cultural map. There really is something for everyone, and the great thing is that whatever your income, whatever your age music has no boundaries, no prejudice. So get down and get involved, this is your festival... Own it!

Music and graffiti art get Suburban Sprawl rolling

A DAY of live music and graffiti art was held in Guildford at the weekend as part of Suburban Sprawl, a new sibling to Guildford International Music Festival.

On Saturday, shoppers in the town centre were treated to live performances courtesy of musicians from the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) and regular artists from the Boileroom music venue, while a large piece of graffiti art was created in front of Debenhams.

Simon Foster, director of Kane FM, said: “The whole purpose of the day was to promote the events for Suburban Sprawl. We were more than happy with how it turned out.

“The graffiti was fantastic, people didn’t just walk past, they stopped and came up to see what we were doing, they were taking leaflets which meant we could give people information about the workshop.”

Artists entertaining the crowds included Rokhsan, Melting Pot’s Jazz John and DJ Easy M.

The upcoming festival, also supported by Andertons Music, will be running workshops at the Boileroom in March aimed at people with an interest in writing poetry and song lyrics.
